Architect’s Secret Sauce: Small Products with Big Impact in a Custom Home

You may not notice them right away—but these thoughtful details are what make a home feel just right. It’s not just the big architectural moves like vaulted ceilings or walls of glass. Often, it’s the finer elements—the concealed hinges, flush trim, magnetic latches, and concealed vents—that elevate a home from ordinary to awe-inspiring.

At Studio Kamppari, these are the magic moments we obsess over. They are the details that make a home feel calm, intentional, and timeless. Here are some of our favorite small-yet-mighty products that we use in custom homes.

Doors and Hardware

Solid Core Doors
Solid core doors have better sound insulation and durability compared to hollow core doors. Really large doors can get heavy so products like Sing Core can help keep doors a manageable weight.

Magnetic Latches
We use magnetic latches from brands like Morelli and Sugatsune for interior doors and access panels. They create a clean, click-free closure—no more clunky latch noise.

Sliding Doors
For areas where space matters, sliders and pocket doors (e.g. Cavity Slider, Hawa) offer a sleek way to tuck doors away without sacrificing aesthetics. We also love bypass and soft-close options.

Pivot Hardware
For statement moments, we turn to premium pivot systems (e.g. Frits Jurgens, Dorma). They add an architectural feel and a smooth, weightless motion to oversized doors.

Concealed Hinges
Using concealed hinges (e.g. Sugatsune, EZconcept RocYork) eliminates visual clutter and lets your finish materials shine.

Trimless Edges

Trimless Doors
These flush, trim free framed doors blend into the wall, creating uninterrupted planes (e.g. Fry Reglet, EZConcept EzyJamb). They’re a signature of modern, detail-oriented design.

Concealed Window Jambs
These reduce shadow lines and frame views in a minimalist way. A Scandinavian staple we love.

Flush Base
The classic minimalist wall base detail, replacing applied trim with a shadow reveal.

Hidden Access Panels

Magnetic Touch Latch for Access Panels
Whether it’s crawl space access or mechanical access panels, magnetic touch latches keep the lines clean while still being easy to open (e.g. Sugatsune).

Building Envelope

Foundation Vents
Joto-Vent is a clever accessory that helps manage airflow and moisture at the base of the building without compromising the clean lines of your foundation.

Rainscreen Accessories
Cor-A-Vent Block Strip is our go to for rainscreen siding applications—it promotes airflow behind siding and protects against moisture.

Roof Ventilation
Either perforated Hardie Panel s or products like Joto-Vent Soffit Vent are critical for venting roof structures while maintaining the integrity of the soffit lines. Continuous ridge vents are our preferred top of roof ventilation detail.

Retrofit Roof
It can be tricky to bring an existing roof up to higher performance standards. To help we have used Soffit Guard by DCI to bridge the gap between roof sheathing and fascia.

HVAC & Plumbing

Outlet Boot
Titan is an outlet boot upgrade that improves airflow and reduces installation mess. It’s a little detail that also helps keep the spiders out.

Hose Bib
Aquor is a sleek, recessed hose bib that clients love for its look and ease of use. It’s one of those joyful little surprises.

Prefabricated Components

Stair
If fully custom stairs aren’t in the budget, the Viewrail Open Stair prefab system is a great alternative. It offers a modern, open look with high-quality treads.

Cabinets
The Space Theory kitchen system combines a refined material palette with precision craftsmanship and durable plywood substrates. It’s a well-designed modular option that still feels elevated and custom.

Why it matters?

You may not notice these upgrades at first glance, but you’ll feel their impact every day. They’re quieter, smoother, cleaner—and built to last. These kinds of details are the invisible luxuries that elevate a custom home into something exceptional.

At Studio Kamppari, we believe good design is holistic. We think about the details behind the walls, the way a door sounds when it closes, how a vent disappears into the fascia. Because when a home is designed thoughtfully, it doesn’t shout—it simply feels right.
