Remodeling with Heart: A Beautiful, Functional Kitchen for a Home Baker on Bainbridge Island
This kitchen renovation transformed a dark, rarely used dining room and a cramped kitchen into a bright, open-concept space tailored to the needs of a passionate home baker. The homeowner approached Studio Kamppari with a clear vision: more light, more storage, and a kitchen that felt inviting, open, and highly functional. The original layout separated the kitchen and dining room, resulting in limited workspace, crowded counters, and poor natural light. We began the redesign by removing a structural wall and installing a concealed beam, hidden within a floating ceiling “cloud” that adds ambient lighting and visual interest. This clever solution preserved the openness of the space while enhancing its architectural character. The kitchen now features muted oak cabinetry, a spacious two-tier island, and quartz countertops, with a lowered butcher block baking station for rolling dough and kneading bread. Two full walls of cabinetry provide ample storage and integrate a dedicated desk area. A calming color palette and layered lighting make the space feel warm and welcoming throughout the day.
For the homeowner, the results exceeded expectations:
It is better than our wildest dreams. I had given Sini a few general ideas of what we wanted and she created a design that ticked every box. Sini and Stonehaven Homes were wonderful to work with and all went smoothly. They are true professionals. Our new space is open, bright, very functional, and beautiful.
This Kitsap County remodel is a perfect example of what thoughtful design can do—support daily rituals, bring light into the heart of the home, and transform how a space feels and functions. At Studio Kamppari, we specialize in custom home design and whole-house remodels that reflect your lifestyle and bring joy to everyday living.
