Coastal Retreat: A Light-Filled Custom Home by the Puget Sound
Designed for a vibrant woman and her beloved dog, this small custom home near the Puget Sound coast is a peaceful retreat that balances comfort, beauty, and practicality. Elevated above the shoreline, the home captures expansive views of trees, water, and mountains, making the most of its stunning Pacific Northwest setting. The home features a two-level layout: the lower level includes covered parking, ample storage, and a welcoming entry. Upstairs, the main living spaces are bathed in natural light. An open-concept living room flows effortlessly into the sunny primary bedroom through oversized operable glass doors, creating a strong indoor-outdoor connection. The adjacent deck extends the living space into the treetops, perfect for lounging, birdwatching, or enjoying the sunset. A tucked-away flex room serves as a home office, library, or guest bedroom. The spa-like bathroom is a private sanctuary, complete with warm wood ceilings and a generously sized soaking area that invites long, quiet baths. The exterior is clad in Lunawood, a sustainably sourced thermally modified wood siding that gracefully weathers to a soft silver-gray over time—blending the home with the natural palette of sand, driftwood, and forest. Every detail in this small beach house reflects Studio Kamppari’s commitment to Scandinavian-inspired design, with its emphasis on light, natural materials, and purposeful simplicity. Whether curled up with a book, playing fetch on the beach, or soaking in the bath, this home supports daily rituals with quiet elegance.
